TED Talk~The art of Stillness
That's a very inspiring speech, which once again reminds me of the essence of simplicity.
The idea sharer, Pico Lyer, is a travel writer. That means he's been to many countries, many places and going through many exotic experiences, and then he has made them into his ideas of writing. He mentioned that he started to get foot on the world since he's only 9 years old, when he knew England's boarding school cost cheaper than his hometown school in California. I don't remember what the world meant to me at the age of 9, but I bet it must be a narrow and naive path. Therefore, I appreciate his courage of exploring the unknown and his clear mind of presenting his need at that age.
Why do I emphasize his childhood experience?
He's come up with the main idea "Sit still/ Meditation" from his many traveling experience and the eventually awkward knowing no place to go. So, he sat down and opened his sensory, getting the feeling of time. In this age of distraction, nothing is so luxurious as paying attention; thus, he got the feeling that time stretching forward like the meadow.
Is it a secret moment?
People going many places in order to get refreshed or stimulus, but the inner selves are still neglected. People go more and do more, but seldom get the themselves connected. He suggests if we want to come back home with fresh hope and to be in love with the world, we might try considering sitting down and going nowhere. I think it's the way to go beyond the boundary of "time" and "space."
